Hello Everyone; We have recently been made aware by local businesses that there has been an increase in counterfeit Bank of England banknotes in circulation in the local area with several £20 notes being discovered over the last week.
Please take a few moments to check any bank notes you receive be it as an individual or as a business and please be patient while others take time to complete checks.
While counterfeit notes are rare, they are also worthless and cannot be reimbursed.
The Bank of England offers advice on how to check your bank notes on its website here → https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/counterfeit-banknotes/how-to-check-your-banknotes
Information specific to £20 notes can be found here → https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/polymer-20-pound-note Attached is a PDF booklet from the Band of England with guidance how to check banknotes.
Counterfeiting directly funds organised crime. It hurts the UK economy by creating losses for businesses, which ultimately affects the cost of things that we all buy. It also affects the pocket of ànyone who receives a counterfeit note, as the notes are worthless.
If you have information about someone making, selling or using counterfeit banknotes, please contact the police or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
If you report counterfeiting to the police, you are helping with investigations and alerting the National Crime Agency to a problems in your area. Intelligence is the lifeblood of modern policing and law enforcement and accurate, timely reporting and intelligence means agencies can work together to protect your community.
